Teething Woes

So for the past 3 nights, Elliott has been waking up screaming in the middle of the night, although super groggy when we go to comfort him. Our daytime routine is also a bit off because of the waking up at night but I really really hope this whole teething thing blows over soon. I forgot how it felt to be zombie like in the wee hours. I don't like it one bit but I do feel so bad for the little guy. My pediatrician told me to hold off on and pain meds if we could, so that he can 'get used' to teething instead of numb and dull it. I'll see how long we can do that for, so far, just cold washcloths for him to bite on and cold teething rings.
What non-medicinal ways did you use to help your babe through this?

  1. I use homeopathic teething tablets. I did give them both baby tylenol once to help them at night. I wanted them to get some rest finally.

  2. I'm so sorry that he's having a tough time with it. E loves her chewy teethers when I put them in the freezer and give them to her frozen. (Some can only go in the fridge, but she loves the freezer ones.)

Just wanted to offer another perspective on the medicine thing... Obviously you should listen to your doctor if you're most comfortable doing that. I will tell you though, that the need for meds doesn't last forever. There was a time when I was giving D meds all the time for teething and thought to myself that he was going to be addicted to them forever, and the next thing I knew, I couldn't remember the last time I had given him tylenol because it had been months. They get through these phases just like everything else. (Long story short, from one moms perspective, don't feel guilty for giving him medicine if you can't stand to watch him cry.)

  3. I think Noah is teething too. He's drooling like crazy, has red cheeks, has been chewing on his fist a lot, and you can see a bunch of tiny buds in his upper gums. He had a rough night last night and woke at 4:30 freaking out for no apparent reason. I wonder if teething is messing with him. Good luck!

  4. The situation of your baby is so sad. Don't worry, soon he'll be ok! Teething is normal. Everyone undergoes this stage and this is really a challenging task for parents.
