13 weeks

We made it.

I'm still not quite believing all of this is actually happening this time.

But I'm so thankful that it is.

Please continue to pray that Sprout keeps growing. We won't be seeing him/her again until 18 weeks and that seems a world away right now.

Taking each day as a blessing...

** On a side note - can you ladies share about sleeping positions?  I read last night that sleeping on my back is not so good because of the blood flow/uterus pressure/ but sleeping on my left has not been comfy so either - is my baby doomed if I end up on my back in the morning? I have been getting restless sleep because I feel like I'm doing something wrong. :(

  3. Yay! Thinking of you and praying for you and the baby constantly! As you head into the second trimester, I wanted to share some reassuring words of encouragement that one of my best friends shared with me. She shared that she remembered getting to her second semester and thinking "I feel totally normal! Are you sure I'm still pregnant?!?". This is a woman who had never experienced loss (and this was even before she witnessed my losses), and even she wondered why she wasn't "experiencing" anything. So if you feel "normal"...don't freak out. Rather, try to enjoy the experience of being "okay", and trust that things are happening that you can't see (or feel) quite yet. Hang in there!

  5. I've worried a lot about sleeping on my back, too. The things I've heard have all made me feel better. The blood flow is BEST on the left, but only marginally better than sleeping on your right. If you do happen to cut off the blood by laying on your back, you'll know. Your blood will get cut off, too, and you will wake up.

So I got myself a body pillow and used to to lay on my back with a slight angle towards the right. Now I just sleep however I can sleep, which is mostly spread eagle with the ceiling fan on high.

Happy second trimester. I am filled with happiness for you!

  8. Congrats for making it to the 2T!!! What a great feeling it is to be there, I remember it very fondly.

About the sleeping: Don't worry about sleeping on your back, especially not this early. The concern about back sleeping only begins in the 3T when there is a lot of weight/pressure (and even then... it's still okay as long as you are comfortable!). My mom is a CNM and she gets asked this question ALL THE TIME. It's important that you get good sleep - so don't worry, you aren't doing any harm by doing it - go ahead and sleep on your back! :)

  9. So very glad to hear that you have reached week 13. That's a big one and I hope that you are breathing easier, even as you pinch yourself to realize that it's all really happening:)

  10. Congratulations on reaching 13 weeks. It feels like such a relief doesn't it?
Re: sleeping. I am 19 weeks and try and mainly sleep on my sides, but often find myself on my back. The previous commenter is right - you will know if you're cutting off blood supply because your hands/feet will feel tingly or numb like pins and needles. I recently bought a sleeping pillow (I think it's called the Snoogle) and it makes such a difference to my comfort. I highly recommend it...but really I think the days of sleeping for 6-8 hour stretches is over ;)

  11. Congrats on second trimester! Yay!!

I agree with everyone else about sleeping. You'll definitely know if you shouldn't sleep on your back because it will be uncomfortable for you. I worried a lot more about it when I was pregnant with D, and now I find myself just trying to stay as comfortable as I can and not worrying about the position I'm in. I'm normally a back sleeper, and I'm still pretty comfy on my back, so that's how I've been sleeping. When I do turn to the side, I do try to choose my left when I can. (We all have to keep in mind that generations of women before us never knew that they should sleep on the left side, and somehow, a vast majority of their babies survived!) :)

  12. Thanks for commenting on my blog. Sprout is beautiful!
I agree with the comments above - especially this early in T2 I would concentrate on sleeping, in whatever position is comfortable.

  13. Here is what the midwife told me about sleeping on your back:
There is a small minority of women who, LATER in pregnancy, cannot sleep on their backs, and they know exactly who they are. They will feel sweaty, dizzy, and nauseated; they will wake up when these symptoms occur. A big, heavy baby can possibly press on the vein in your back, but not a little one. Don't worry about it until at least 5 months pregnant, and then, if you want to sleep on your back, just put a folded towel under one hip. The slight tilt of your pelvis will tilt the uterus off of the vein in question.
So, the answer is, you can sleep on your back, especially at 13 weeks. See how it feels at 20 weeks.

  15. i wouldn't worry about sleeping on your back at this point. Like other bloggers have said, you dont really have to worry about till your 5th or 6th month. And my doctor said that the body has a cool way of knowing what to do. If your baby's blood flow is being restricted, your body will instinctively turn onto itside. Alot of things told to pregnant women make us paranoid, but in the scheme of things, are not really huge deals. congrats to making it to the 2T!

  16. I started training myself to sleep on my left and I am a belly sleeper so it was hard, but after awhile it became easy. Maybe put a pillow to your side so you have something to lie up against?

  17. You've reached the promised land of the 2nd trimester! Fantastic! I've always slept on my side, but lately I've been waking up on my back too. Hopefully our little babies will do fine despite the less than ideal position. I agree with some other comments that say not to worry until the 5th or 6th month. I'm barely showing...how heavy can my uterus be?

  18. congrats! i try to sleep on my left side knowing its better for my blood circulation but i always land on my back every morning. And i sometimes try to sleep on my right but i feel uncomfortable. i was worried about that but ask my doctor. They said it is fine. It's not until it's your 3rd trimester you feel uncomfortable so they recommend sleeping on your left. i was thinking of using my body pillow later to prop my back during the nights. good luck!
